SOW: from April to end August, seed depth 10-15mm.  Choose to sow in situ or 2-3 seeds per pot for transplanting.

GROW: this is a slower grower than most others but very bolt resistant and mildew resistant too so it will cope with warm damp weather or hot weather when you have had to water.  For salad leaves grow close together, leave a wider spacing for growing larger plants.  Space transplants 15-20cm apart planting each pot of seedlings as an intact bunch: leaving roots undisturbed & giving the bunch room to grow.  

EAT: enjoy in salads or cooked (steaming helps to preserve nutrients) the tender stems can also be eaten.

Smooth and succulent choice from pretty much from March to October (not quite so happy in very hot weather).  Choose to pick early for baby leaves or at full size so it is very accommodating.

SOW & GROW: your first sowing can be as early as February (protect with cloches or sow in a greenhouse for the most tender of leaves at this time of year). You can continue to sow at any time to the end of September.  By sowing a little seed every few weeks you can have a regular supply of leaves through the spring, summer and autumn.  This baby leaf is best sown in situ: you can trim with scissors and let it regrow but it is easier to sow a little and often!
