Giant Winter is a fantastic winter variety with large dark green leaves that are full of flavour. What ever the winter weather throws at you, be it rain, hail frost or snow, Giant Winter seems to shrug it off and keep going. The younger leaves are milder, as they grow they develop a strong, rich flavour that's perfect in winter casseroles or lightly steamed as a delicious side veg.
Price for 50 seeds
SOW & GROW: any time between July to December to harvest from October to March, in situ or in pots for planting out, seed depth 10-25mm. Sow a little seed every 3 weeks for a continuous supply. Plant out at 15cm spacing and start harvesting when the leaves reach a usable size from about 5 weeks (slower growing as the weather cools). Pick carefully as the stems and roots are easily damaged, alternatively pull up the whole plant and replace with a later transplant.
EAT: as soon as possible after harvesting! Use small leaves raw in salads or lightly cook or steam whole leaves slicing them after cooking. Simple to cook from frozen: 5 mins in a covered saucepan without adding any extra water, drain, season and serve.
