Early Onward produces pods that are plump and dark green and contain about 6-8 peas each. The plant grows to 60cm. Don’t worry, the seeds are supposed to be wrinkled! Prolific and scrummy.

Price for 50 seeds

SOW: these can be started in February for an early crop, or sow up to late May/early June.  We start ours peas in pots to give them a fighting chance against the mice and then plant them outside.  They can be sown in situ; for early sowing use cloches to warm the soil first & give them that little bit of protection while they get going.

GROW:  pot grown plants need to be hardened off before planting out at about 12cm apart each way.  Peas like moisture and will tolerate light shade.  You should only need to water in dry summers, not too much while they are young but a little more once they start to flower.  Pick regularly to encourage more growth.

EAT: it is rare for our peas to get as far as the basket let alone the kitchen – shelled and eaten as they are picked – this is Ian’s favourite pea variety
