Melon Ogen is a favourite with a rich and sweet flavour, aromatic too. The small fruits start green then turn to golden yellow as they ripen, the distinctive stripes remain green, when ripe they release a sweet, almost tropical aroma, and the blossom end will yield slightly to pressure. RHS AGM winner. Price for 4 seeds
GROWING: in the UK melon Ogen really does prefer the extra warmth and protection of a glasshouse, polytunnel or conservatory. In a milder garden consider a good sized cloche or coldframe. Plants can spread 1.5-2m although they take up less space when trained on a frame. Happy plants can produce 3-4 melons. And the flavour is definitely worth the extra TLC needed for growing.
