Sugar Bon – the trick is to pick when the pods are well rounded and bright green, around 8 weeks from germination/planting out. The flavour is deliciously sweet, and the pods are crisp and juicy, enjoy straight from the plant or cooked.

This variety will tolerate a light frost allowing you to grow them from spring to autumn: your last sowing about 10 weeks before your first expected autumn frost. This also makes them a good choice for more northerly gardens. All this plus the fact that they are dwarf (about 60cms tall) so perfect for exposed areas and tidy for container growing, you can even mingle them amongst your border flowers: what’s not to love!
SOW: in spring to mid-August, seed depth 3-5cm (just below 2nd knuckle). We sow 3 seeds per 7cm pot (or yogurt pot with holes in the bottom. They can also be sown in situ 5cm apart each way (protect from birds!) Your last sowing can be timed about 10 weeks before your first expected autumn frost
GROW: pot grown plants need to be hardened off before planting out. These short peas, Sugar Bon reaches about 60cm tall, rarely need support, are perfect for exposed areas, tidy for container growing or you can mingle them amongst your border flowers. Peas like moisture and will tolerate light shade. Water in dry weather. This is a prolific variety, just keep picking for even more pods
