This popular variety needs little introduction: they can thrive in poorer soils, rarely split and have a long cropping period and store for ages too. You will love the large, bright orange, juicy, flavourful roots. Pull as soon as you cannot resist any longer or leave them till the autumn. Price for 150 seeds
SOW: from March to June, for a succession of these lovely carrots sow a little every 3 weeks. You can also do early sowings from February using cloches to warm the soil and protect your seedlings. Remember to dig the soil thoroughly. Sow sparingly to avoid the need for too much thinning.
GROW: keep moist and weed free – they don’t like the competition. If you do need to this then do it in the evening and clear up all the bits, watering first can make it easier.
EAT: pull as soon as you cannot resist any longer or leave them till the autumn. Flakkee can reach over 20cm long in the best conditions (they will even thrive in poor soil). They don’t often split and will store for ages or you can freeze them.
