We have moved this variety to the baby leaf section because it is, after all, the primary reason for growing it! The bold deep burgundy colour and sweet flavour make it a stunning addition to your salads. Harvested after just 5 weeks, and if you keep them moist they will resprout for a second salad cut. Below are the dark red roots, full of flavour with an attractive striped interior; pull after 6 weeks or so lovely mini beets but they are very slow to put on any more bulk than this. For beetroot roots turn to the main beetroot section. Price for 50 seeds

A leafy crop that is not well known: lots of nice tender leaves in the summer that are very good in Mexican vegetable dishes (with onion, jalepeno, a little tomato sauce) or steamed with a drizzle of olive oil and a few drops of lemon juice, Greek style. Young leaves and stem tips are "dusted" with beautiful iridescent magenta and taste good in salads. Price for 100 seeds

So delicious and pretty; the round leaves have deep red stems and veins.  With a sweet taste and lovely colour they are a real bonus for your salad bowl.  Professional growers prefer sowing in spring and autumn but in the garden, when you can pick as and when you want, they are fine to grow throughout the summer too.

Scrumptious harvested after just 4 weeks. The tasty sweet leaves are a dark glossy green and have a slightly curled edge (for the technically inclined this gives the leaves ‘lift’ in a salad mix by creating air spaces!). The lovely white stems can be eaten raw (great for dips) or cooked. Price for 40 seeds
