SPRING ONION WINTER OVER ~ AGM winner with a mild flavour, a little larger than White Lisbon 100 seeds SOW: in spring and again from late August through to November. They like an open site and the seed needs to be no deeper than 1cm. Sow sparingly to minimise thinning, make more than one sowing for a succession of salad onions. GROW: In cooler areas late sowings may need cloches while they get going, once settled they are hardy. EAT: pull as needed. We often freeze spring onions after we cut them into strips to add to oriental dishes. You can also use the leaves as an alternative to chives in salads or as a stir fry green.
