Waltham Butternut is one of the most popular butternut squashes and deservedly so. Pick the fruits at about 15cm long; they have a bulbous end with rich orange flesh and a delicious flavour, uniquely sweet. They store well too.

This variety does take a while to grow, about 15 weeks, but as the saying goes – good things come to those that wait.

Price for 3 seeds

This variety is part of our naturally nurtured range, the seed comes from an organic source

SOW:  from late April to end of May, start 1 seed per pot or module, 20-25mm deep.

GROW: keep moist but not waterlogged.  Harden off and plant out after all danger of frost has passed.  In cooler areas you can protect young plants with cloches until they have settled in.  Waltham Butternut needs about 15 weeks to grow & the fruit should be picked at about 15cm long.  After harvesting in late summer leave them outdoors for about 14 days to harden the skin for storing (protect from frost) or ripen in a greenhouse.

ENJOY: bake, roast or stir fry, use in soups or sweet pies.  This variety stores well.
