Carrots haven’t always been orange, and this colourful collection is a rather tasty reminder of just how varied they can be! There’s yellow, white, purple and red alongside this year’s orange choice, Katrin, with different flavours and textures to discover too.
Roast them, steam them, grate them into salads or simply crunch them raw. However they reach the table, these five should make carrots rather more colourful!
Jaune De Doubs – a French heirloom with long, slender yellow roots and a delicious flavour.
Katrin – plump orange roots around 12cm long with blunt ends and a proper carroty flavour. An open-pollinated variety that can be harvested through summer and autumn.
Luna White – creamy white right through to the centre, with a deliciously mild flavour.
Purple Sun F1 – fabulous deep purple roots, coloured right through, with an excellent flavour.
Red Samurai F1 – a Japanese-bred carrot with long tapered roots, distinctive red skin and pinkish flesh.
