Marvelous Amazon F1 has an AGM recognising its excellent garden performance, and you could be savouring this British-bred beauty at its best direct from your garden. It has good mildew resistance too. useful in our mild, damp weather. The glossy, dark leaves are very slightly crumpled and can be harvested at any time between 4 and12 weeks from sowing, depending on the size of leaf you prefer.
Sow: from February (with protection) through to April and again in August and September. Sow in pots or modules for transplanting, or sow in situ.
Grow: space plants about 15cm apart. Pick individual leaves carefully as the stems and roots are easily damaged, or pull up the whole plant to harvest and replace it with a later transplant. Keep well watered, particularly during warm, dry weather.
Eat & Enjoy: as soon as possible after harvesting! Small leaves are delightful in salads. Medium leaves can be wilted and used as a bed for fish or meat dishes, or included in quiche. Large leaves are also full of flavour and are ideal for cooking.
