Opulent Scarlet Oase features large, almost fluffy, frilly double flowers in a bold scarlet shade, each with a contrasting white blotch tucked into the centre. These striking blooms are followed by handsome ornamental seed heads. Sow these as a stunning drift of colour through grasses or low greenery in a mixed border where they really come into their own, swaying in the breeze. They are also well worth adding to your cutting list, as the flowers make a superb cut bloom.

SOW: directly into prepared ground from March, or once nighttime temperatures are not dropping much below 9°C, through to June. Don’t cover the tiny seeds, germination usually takes 2-4 weeks.
GROW: Papaver dislike being transplanted. In cold areas they may not flower until their second year.
ENJOY: the strong stems make this a marvellous cut flower variety. The seed pods can also be used in arrangements. For longer lasting flowers, cut while still in bud and sear the stem ends with a match before placing in water.
