Martini is a great little variety. The plants are neat and compact, but still produce a good crop of crisp, tasty pods. At around 10cm long, the beans are small but full of flavour, and super easy to prepare. Just top and tail, maybe cut in half, and they’re ready for the pot. A no-fuss, delicious choice for any veg patch.

SOW: start these off in pots or modules placed in an unheated greenhouse or even on a windowsill from March (for an early crop) to May, or directly outside from mid-May when the soil has warmed up as they are not keen on cold soil.

GROW: plant out after hardening off when about 15cm tall after all frost danger has passed.  Martini, being a dwarf variety, does not require support.  French Beans are self-pollinating.  They cope well with drier summers.

ENJOY: pick young and cook whole or sliced.  We normally get 2 or 3 good flushes of flowers then pods before leaving the last for drying at the end of the season.  They are super in winter casseroles.  All our French bean varieties freeze well.
