Milan is a bit special – not just for its particularly sweet flavour, but for its versatility too. Sow early for some of the first carrots of the season, or go late for a crop that stores well into winter. It takes around 12 weeks from sowing to harvest.
This variety is part of our naturally nurtured range, the seed comes from an organic source
SOW: 10mm deep from February to August, but early spring before mid-March or from July can avoid the worst of the carrot fly. For early sowings warm the soil with the cloches before sowing or wait for warmer weather. Dig the soil well first & sow sparingly to avoid lots of thinning.
GROW: Milan needs about 12 weeks to reach a good size but can be pulled earlier for baby sized roots. Keep moist and weed free: they don’t like the competition.
EAT & ENJOY: start the season with sweet, early carrots, then sow again for a later crop to store. They’ll keep in boxes of damp sand, but blanching and freezing is a simpler option for most kitchens.
