Aubrieta Large Flowered Hybrids produces a beautiful carpet of vibrant, large flowers in a rich range of colours from early spring to mid-summer.  This evergreen perennial is one of the best plants for tumbling over walls, softening path edges or cascading down banks, where it returns year after year with very little attention. Once established it copes well with dry conditions too. So much from an often-overlooked plant and there’s more…it’s an important early nectar and pollen source for bees, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinating insects when there’s little else in bloom.

🌸 Flowering March to June
📏 Height 20-30cm
🌿 Perennial
💧 Drought tolerant once established

Sow: from February to May, in trays of seed compost, spacing the seeds around 2cm apart.  Lightly cover, firm gently, then seal in a clear plastic bag until germination, which usually takes 14-21 days at 18C.  Once seedlings appear, remove the covering and grow them on. Prick out when they are about 2cm tall and have their first true leaves, spacing them around 8cm apart or potting them individually.

Grow: plant into their final position from August to October and water until established. A little protection from strong winter winds during the first year can help young plants settle in. After flowering, give plants a light trim to keep them compact and encourage neat evergreen growth.

Enjoy: one of the first plants to fill the garden with colour each spring, creating vibrant cushions of flowers that brighten walls, paths and rockeries. It asks for very little in return, rewarding you year after year while helping early bees and other pollinating insects get the season off to a good start.
