Milan Purple Top is a very popular Italian variety of turnip, it is our top selling turnip choice, producing good yields of quality flatish roots, two-tone colour with white beneath the purple top.

SOW: When – From March to August Where – in situ – seed depth 10mm & sow sparingly to minimise need to thin seedlings.
GROW: thin and remove seedlings so that they don’t touch otherwise good roots will not develop – these thinnings can be eaten as greens so are not wasted. Water a little and often in dry weather. The roots are ready 10-12 weeks after sowing. If growing for greens cut when 10-15cm high and leave to resprout. Flavour and texture reduce in quality if allowed to grow larger then this.
EAT & ENJOY: peel before cooking and enjoy them mashed, roasted, in soups and casseroles. To Freeze – peel and dice, blanch for 2 minutes, plunge into cold water, drain and dry with paper towel, pack in meal sized amounts.
