Full of flavour Marmande is very unusual as the fruits grow in different funky shapes: they can be smooth round or ribbed (sometimes called scalloped edged). Recommended by Raymond Blanc for taste, they have also featured on Gardeners World and of course they remain a favourite of ours as well. Indeterminate.
SOW: we start ours about 6-8 weeks before the last frost is expected sowing in modules (cover or put on a windowsill). We transplant to pots when large enough to handle and grow on until ready to harden off and plant after frost danger has passed.
GROW: plant in the greenhouse or in a sunny sheltered part of your garden. For the best flavour keep soil evenly damp & don’t overfeed). Marmande, being indeterminate, can grow tall and will need supporting. It will bloom, set new fruit and ripen fruit all at the same time throughout the season. There is no need to pinch out the side shoots unless you prefer to do so.
ENJOY: sumptuous flavour.
