Heirloom Homestead produces generously sized bold red fruits that are firm, meaty and full of flavour. They’re perfect for sandwiches, salads, slicing and grilling, and they make a rich, delicious tomato sauce too. This is a disease-resistant variety and a real heat lover. If your tomatoes have struggled in the greenhouse, conservatory or grow house, turn to Homestead. It has been reliably setting fruit at high temperatures for more than seventy years. Semi-determinate
SOW: seed depth 5mm, start about 6-8 weeks before the last frost is expected sowing in modules (cover or put on a windowsill). Transplant to pots when large enough to handle & grow on until ready to harden off after frost danger has passed.
GROW: this heat lover is best planted in the greenhouse, a conservatory or grow house. They are happy with humidity, ideal if growing with aubergines. For the best flavour keep soil evenly damp and don’t overfeed. Homestead is semi-determinate they produce tomatoes through the season until they stop growing by 150cm tall.
ENJOY: meaty fruits that hold up well to slicing and grilling. Use in salads, and sandwiches and for sauces.
