Bumblebee Purple is an open-pollinated, traditionally bred modern cherry tomato with deep red to purple fruits and almost metallic green markings. They’re really pretty, firm and juicy, with a lovely flavour combining fruity and smoky tones with plenty of sweetness. The fruits are crack resistant and the plants cope well with the changing temperatures experienced in UK gardens! It’s true they’re sweeter when grown under the protection of a greenhouse, but we’ve enjoyed them from a sunny, sheltered outdoor spot too. Indeterminate
Sow: about 6-8 weeks before your last expected frost, sowing 5mm deep in modules. You can top with vermiculite, then cover with a plastic bag or glass until germinated. When large enough to handle, we transplant to pots, setting them deep, and grow on.
Grow: harden off & plant out when frost danger is over, choosing a sunny sheltered part of your garden. Growbags or patio pot are ideal, or plant in a greenhouse. For the best flavour keep soil evenly damp and don’t over-water or overfeed. Bumblebee Purple is indeterminate: growing tall, blooming, setting and ripening fruit throughout the season.
Enjoy: it’s the name that first caught my attention, then the looks and after tasting I got the ‘feels’ that this had to join our range so you could try it too!
