Heirloom variety Azoychka is a lemony-yellow beauty with a flavour to match. There's a citrusy tang alongside the sweetness when fully ripe, giving these tomatoes a bit more bite than their sunny colour might suggest. Judging ripeness can be slightly trickier with a yellow tomato, so wait for the fruits to deepen to a richer, darker yellow. Its Russian heritage seems rather fitting as Azoychka will set and ripen in cooler conditions, although it's more than happy when warmer weather arrives too! Indeterminate.

Sow: we start about 6-8 weeks before our last frost is expected, sowing 5mm deep into modules. Keep under cover or on a warm windowsill. Transplant to pots when large enough to handle and grow on until ready to harden off and plant after frost danger has passed.

Grow: plant in the greenhouse or in a sunny sheltered part of your garden. For the best flavour keep soil evenly damp and try not to over-water or overfeed.  Azoychka is indeterminate, it will bloom, set new fruit and ripen fruit all at the same time until the first frosts.

Enjoy: these large fruits have relatively few seeds and plenty of flesh, making them a cracking slicing tomato. Layer them into sandwiches, add thick slices to a salad or simply eat them fresh and enjoy that sweet, citrusy tang.
