Ailsa Craig has a famously well-deserved reputation for its fine flavour. The fruits are medium sized and bright red. This variety can crop from 9 weeks after transplanting. This heirloom, originating from Scotland is vigorous, reliable and well suited to growing outdoors or in a greenhouse. Indeterminate.
SOW: we start ours about 6-8 weeks before the last frost is expected sowing in modules (cover or put on a windowsill). We transplant to pots when large enough to handle and grow on until ready to harden off and plant after frost danger has passed.
GROW: plant in the greenhouse or in a sunny sheltered part of your garden. For the best flavour keep soil evenly damp and don’t overfeed). Ailsa Craig, being indeterminate, can grow tall and will need supporting. It will bloom, set new fruit and ripen fruit all at the same time throughout the season. There is no need to pinch out the side shoots unless you prefer to do so.
EAT & ENJOY: fab toms, at their best home grown.
