Tagetes Tangerine Gem is a vigorous, easy-to-grow variety with soft, ferny foliage and masses of small, bright orange flowers that bloom non-stop all summer. These compact plants are brilliant at the front of borders, superb in pots, and even useful in the greenhouse, where they help deter greenfly and whitefly. A great all-rounder that looks good and does good.
🌸 Flowering: June to October
📏 Height: to 25cm
🌿Annual
SOW: from February to April, sow on the surface of seed compost in trays and cover lightly with perlite, vermiculite or a fine layer of compost. Pop the tray in a plastic bag or propagator and keep at around 18–20°C. Germination usually takes 1–2 weeks. Pot on into modules or small pots once large enough to handle.
GROW: when seedlings reach about 10cm tall, harden off and plant out at 15–20cm apart. They like a sunny spot and will flower for ages with regular deadheading — great for edging veg beds or tucking into containers.
ENJOY: the citrus-flavoured petals add a zingy touch to salads or fish dishes. Bees and hoverflies love them too, making them a useful addition for pollinators and pest control alike.
