If you love baby sweet corn then Minipop F1 is the perfect choice for you. Pick the little cobs at about 10cm, when the tassels are just showing and before the grains start to swell. It produces 5-6 cobs per plant and does not require pollination and so can be grown in rows or with another sweet corn variety.
Sow: start indoors from late March to May, harden off and plant out end May-June. Start seeds outdoors in late May (under cloches). Space plants 20-25cm apart.
Grow: keep plants well-watered. Minipop should be picked before the grains swell so harvest when the tassels just show. This can be as early as July but more often mid-August onwards. They do not need wind pollination which is why this variety can be planted in a row rather than the usual block.
Enjoy: eat as soon as possible after picking! Try them raw with salad and dip, steam lightly or slice them lengthways and stir fry. Delicious.
