Night-Scented Stocks (Matthiola bicornis) shouldn’t be overlooked — their scent is absolutely heavenly and brings the evening garden alive. Plant them in clumps near benches, paths, or patios, so as dusk falls, the flowers open and their fragrance fills the summer night air.

SOW & GROW:: sow from March to June, staggering your sowings to enjoy flowers for longer. Sow directly into well-prepared, damp soil and lightly rake in the seeds. If sowing in pots, use a larger size and sprinkle a pinch of seeds on the surface of seed compost, then cover lightly with compost or vermiculite. Germination is fairly quick. Thin pot-grown seedlings to about 8cm apart as needed.
ENJOY:: they add pretty colour during the day but truly come into their own at night with their amazing scent. Perfect planted in drifts or clumps where you sit or stroll.
