Statice Sunburst Apricot brings a completely different feel to statice. The soft apricot blooms have a warm, slightly vintage look that works beautifully amongst summer flowers. And that colour is just as useful indoors. Cut them fresh for a vase or dry them to keep that little bit of summer around for much longer.

🌸 Flowering: June to the first frosts
šŸ“ Height: 70-90cm
🌿 Tender perennial usually treated as an annual
šŸ’§ Drought tolerant once established

Sow: between February and April, start by sowing onto moist well-drained compost. Cover lightly and keep at 18-24C. Germination usually takes 7-14 days. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to individual pots and grow on in cooler conditions.

Grow: harden off and plant out once danger of frost has passed. Plant 25-35 cm apart. Statice thrives in well-drained soil and is quite happy to be baked in full sun. It suits low-water gardens. It needs little aftercare, just cutting and deadheading.

Enjoy: I think this colour is the real reason to grow Sunburst Apricot. Soft enough to mingle amongst other flowers but warm enough not to disappear amongst them.

šŸ’” Did you know?

What looks like the everlasting part of a statice flower isn't actually the flower itself. It’s the calyx. Those colourful, papery parts are the calyces surrounding the much shorter-lived true flowers. The calyces remain after the flowers have faded and keep their colour as they dry. That's the secret behind statice being such a brilliant everlasting flower.
