Uchiki Kuri fruits have a strong orange coloured skin hiding golden flesh with a sweet and slightly nutty flavour. Each plant will form up to 5 small fruits (about 1.5kg). It matures in late summer and stores very well.

We have successfully grown these up a support structure (tying in the stems as needed) so that the fruits hang and catch the eye as they grow - this means they dont take up lots of space in the garden

Sow:  between late April and the end of May, start 1 seed per pot or module (seed depth 20-25mm)

Grow: keep moist but not waterlogged.  Harden off and plant out after all danger of frost has passed.  In cooler areas you can protect young plants with cloches until they have settled in.  Each Uchiki Kuri plant will form up to 5 small fruits (about 1.5kg)! After harvesting in late summer leave them outdoors for about 14 days to harden the skin for storing (protect from frost) or ripen in a greenhouse or sunny windowsill.

Enjoy: bake, roast or stir fry, use in soups or sweet pies.
