Pink Banana Jumbo is a must try variety: how can you resist a name like this combined with yellow-orange firm flesh (that is not stringy) hidden under the pink skin. Its sweet flavour makes it an excellent choice for pies and baking. Each fruit can grow to 50cm or more in good conditions. Great fun, an abundant and enthusiastic plant, you can keep it well behaved by growing any vining shoots around in a circle.
Sow: between late April to end of May, start 1 seed per pot or module, 20-25mm deep
Grow: keep moist but not waterlogged. Harden off and plant out after all danger of frost has passed. In cooler areas you can protect young plants with cloches until they have settled in. Pink Banana Jumbo can grow to 50cm in good conditions! After harvest leave them outdoors for about 14 days to harden the skin for storing (protect from frost) or ripen in a greenhouse.
Enjoy: bake, roast or stir fry, use in soups or sweet pies (this variety is particularly good for pies & baking), and you can pickle them.
