Grow your own bright white flying saucers! Patty Pan Disco are well behaved bushy plants that grow plenty of these lovely flavoured, scalloped edges squashes. As a summer squash they are best eaten fresh, we think they are gorgeous sliced in half and roasted with a sprinkling of herbs.
SOW: from late April to the end of May, under cover to start them off, 1 per pot. Some people like to soak the seed overnight before sowing.
GROW: keep moist but not waterlogged. Harden off and plant out after all danger of frost has passed. In cooler areas you can protect young plants with cloches until they have settled in. Disco matures in about 12 weeks, best eaten fresh (will not store beyond 2 weeks)
EAT & ENJOY: thin skinned summer squashes can be eaten as you would courgettes – try frying or grilling – we think Disco is gorgeous sliced in half and roasted with a sprinkling of herbs.
