Gerda is an almost all-year-round cropper. Mild & delicious bright white slim shanks are really versatile for cooking or for salad use. This variety is perfect for repeated sowing to give you a harvest between June and March of the following year! Sow and grow in your garden in the spring and summer, under cloches or in a grow house through the late autumn and winter. A packet of these will always be handy for your garden.
SOW & GROW: March to early September, no deeper than 1cm. Cloches ought to be used to mid-April and again to protect later sowings in the winter weather. Alternatively, September sow in a cool frame or greenhouse. Sow sparingly to minimise thinning. Pull as needed and make repeat sowings every 3-4 weeks for a continuous supply of spring onions.
ENJOY: add your spring onions to stir-fries, savoury pancakes, rice dishes or bake into bread. Cut them lengthways and use for dips, slice across to toss into a salad. The dark green leaves can also be used in salads or for flavouring in cooked dishes.
