Entita is a lovely slim variety that does not bulb up into an onion or bolt. It has very upright dark green leaves and a pale shank, smart and tasty. Spring sowings take about 10 weeks but summer sowings (into July) are faster at 7-8 weeks. You can sow later than this for an autumn crop.
SOW: in spring, summer and early autumn no more than 1cm deep. Cloches ought to be used to mid-April.
GROW: just let them grow. Spring sowings take about 10 weeks but summer sowings (into July) are faster at 7-8 weeks. As the weather cools again growth is slower too. Being bulb & bolt resistant you can pull them when you need them as they won’t ‘go over’.
ENJOY: cut them lengthways and use for dips, slice across to toss into a salad. Stir fry or bake when you want a milder flavour than a mature onion would give you. You can also cut leaves for use in salads or for flavouring
