Helios F1 is named after the ancient Greek god of the sun, so perhaps it's no surprise that this is a super summer spinach! Bolt resistant, with lovely flavoured oval leaves that don't easily bruise, it's perfect for salads or for cooking. Happy days.

Sow: between March and September, 10–15mm deep. Spinach prefers to germinate in cool soil, so in hotter weather consider sowing in pots or modules in a shaded spot and transplanting carefully. Alternatively sow in situ when conditions are cooler. Sow some spinach every 3–4 weeks for a continuous supply.

Grow: when growing for baby leaves, plants can be just 3cm apart. If you want larger plants, harvest selectively to leave a wider spacing of around 12cm, giving the remaining plants room to grow.

Enjoy: Helios leaves don't bruise easily, making them a great choice for salads. Their upright growth means soil splash is minimal and the leaves stand up well to washing too. Cook mature leaves to eat straight away or freeze some for later.
