Greta F1 has lightly wrinkled leaves that first form large rosettes before the plants grow taller and take on a slightly upright habit. Greta delivers flavour at every stage, from small salad leaves right through to larger leaves for cooking, steaming, stir-frying or adding to smoothies. It stands well in colder weather, with late autumn sowings taking your harvest through into mid-winter.
Sow: in the colder months for winter cropping, or sow again in spring and early summer. Sow 10–15mm deep, with 2–3 seeds per pot or module for transplanting, or sow in situ (protect in winter).
Grow: for salad leaves, grow closely together and harvest alternate whole plants, leaving more room for the remaining plants to grow larger. Space transplants 15–20cm apart, planting each pot of seedlings as an intact bunch. This gives each bunch room to develop while avoiding unnecessary root disturbance, as spinach roots are easily damaged.
Enjoy: small Greta leaves are tasty in salads, while larger leaves can be steamed, stir-fried or added to all sorts of cooked dishes. Steaming is a particularly good way to cook spinach without losing too much of its nutritional value.
