July can feel like the height of the gardening season, but it's also one of the most important times to think ahead.

The seeds you sow now can keep your garden productive well into autumn, through winter and even into next spring. While it's tempting to sit back and enjoy the harvests already arriving, a little planning now means you'll have fresh vegetables waiting when many plots are beginning to slow down.

This collection brings together reliable varieties that help keep the garden productive and the kitchen supplied with homegrown goodness for months to come.

Cabbage Tundra – grow these tasty dark green heads with their crinkled savoy leaves.  This is an AGM winning variety, it is suitable for close spacing, and you can enjoy their tastiness as a winter treat and on right through to March (20 seeds)
Caulflower Romanesco – fabulous spiky turrets make up the green head…more unusual than regular white cauliflower but filled with the same goodness and great cauli flavour.  (18 seeds)
DFB Purple Teepee – sow now and enjoy a delicious fresh crop into the early autumn.  Those bold purple pods are on the top of the plant, above the foliage, making them easier to see and harvest! (50 seeds)
Kale Hungry Gap – this is a great, robust and reliable, late cropping kale.  It comes into its own in March when fresh greens are in short supply: cut young leaves from several plants - the regular harvesting encourages young growth over a longer period. The side-shoots can be harvested at 10-12cm as another tasty treat. (12 seeds)
Leaf Beet Bright Lights – bright splashes of colour bring the winter garden to life. An easy plant that doesn’t mind a bit of neglect! Bring that colour and flavour to your plate, the stems can be cooked like rhubarb or try steaming and serve with butter as a starter like asparagus tips.  Cook the leaves like spinach or cabbage. (40 seeds)
Pea Terrain – sown now and your tasty peas will be fresh from the pod in October or even early November.  Enjoy a late season treat. (50 seeds)
Spinach Santa Cruz – super choice for summer sowing, with tasty rounded leaves and tender stems.  And it’s versatile: enjoy from baby leaf size right through to full sized richly flavoured leaves.

Your future self will thank you for every packet sown this month.
