July is one of my favourite months for sowing carrots. The soil is warm, germination is usually quick, and later sowings often avoid the worst of the carrot fly season.

These three varieties have been chosen to keep fresh carrots on your plate long after summer has faded. From the first sweet roots in early autumn through to harvesting in the depths of winter, there's something rather satisfying about pulling your own carrots when very little else is coming out of the ground.

Each collection contains one packet (150 seeds) of each variety.

Eskimo F1 – this AGM winner is happy down to -10°C without straw and is perfect for harvesting through the winter. Good colour, excellent flavour and fresh carrots when they're most appreciated.

Karotela – a superb Nantes type producing smooth, crunchy, sweet roots up to 20cm long. Rich orange throughout, right up to the shoulders. Harvest through autumn and into October.

Little Fingers – a gourmet's delight. These smooth, slender roots are wonderfully tender and sweet, making them perfect for pulling young. Ready from around 8 weeks after sowing and continuing well into November.

Your future self will thank you for a July sowing of carrots that will be waiting when you need them most.
