This shallot, Zebrune, has long brown bulbs with a blush of pink to the skins; delicious mild & sweet flavoured.
SOW: either in March & April, sparingly 1cm deep in rows about 30cm apart, but warm the soil first under cloches as cold soil can upset germination, thin when large enough to handle. Or, for an earlier start use trays or modules and sow in February, prick out when large enough to handle. Harden off and plant out in April.
GROW: Their final space needs to be at 10-15cm apart. Keep well watered as the bulb grows. Your harvest should be ready in August and September.
