Red Cherry peppers are tiny, about the size and shape of cherries. They start off green and ripen to a bold, bright red. The plants don’t just produce a few fruits: the branches are absolutely laden with these small, round gems. “Tiny” only describes the size, not the flavour, which is rich and sweet. This heirloom variety dates back to the 1860s and is still loved today for its abundance and charm.
SOW: start by sowing indoors or under glass in March/April, seed depth 5mm. Seedlings can take 2-3 weeks to emerge. They like warmth 18-21C. Transplant to individual pots when they have two pairs of leaves.
GROW: these will like a warm, sunny spot or a place in the greenhouse or conservatory in growbags or containers. The plants can be 60-90cm tall and wide. If the flowers drop increase humidity & keep ventilated. Peppers can continue growing into the autumn – protect with fleece if frost is likely.
ENJOY: as a lunch time snack, as mini stuffed pepper balls or use for pickling. They can also be grilled and roasted.
