Pepper Californian Wonder

Californian Wonder is almost ready to celebrate its centenary.  This heirloom has been setting the standard for sweet bell peppers since 1928.  Large fruited, thick walled, sweet and crisp, it is full of flavour.  Each plant will produce 4 or 5 of these generous fruits, plenty to enjoy                        
SOW: start by sowing indoors or under glass in March/April.  Californian Wonder is happiest grown with some protection.  In warmer areas you can plant out in a sheltered sunny spot after about 8 weeks but delay planting until the frost risk has passed.  
GROW: you can fit three plants in a grow bag. They also grow in containers or in the soil.  Harvest from August as they mature from jade green to scarlet red.  Peppers can continue growing into the autumn, so protect with fleece if frost is likely. 
ENJOY: a good, firm, well flavoured pepper to add to salads, stuff, fry or add to stews and casseroles.  Peppers also freeze well.
