Sweet Horizon is a real star - vigorous, upright, double-podded and a little later so will follow on behind other mangetout to extend your harvest! And those pods can be 10cm long putting Sweet Horizon into a different league! Copes well with summer & autumn weather (be it heat or damp), with good mildew resistance: your plants can crop to October

SOW: from March to June. We sow our peas 3 per pot; sowing in guttering to be slid into place is a popular method. They can also be sown in situ.

GROW: if pot/guttering sown harden off before planting out. Peas like moisture and will tolerate light shade, they will need watering in dry weather. Pick regularly to encourage more growth. Being vigorous, Sweet Horizon will need support – height to 90cm.

EAT & ENJOY: pick them while still flat, before they begin to swell, whilst at their sweetest: Sweet Horizon can produce large pods which can be sliced before cooking. Mangetout is lovely fresh although freezing is very successful. Remember, as with all mangetout, once it starts to crop you will need to pick every day – the pods seem to grow as soon as you are not looking and like to hide amongst the foliage!

Mangetout or snow pea?

Simply put they are mangetout (French for eat all), mangetout is used for the types of garden pea picked very young, so young that the pod is still flat and the peas have barely developed. The term ‘snow pea’ is largely interchangeable with mangetout but is gradually coming into use for pods that stay flat to a larger size and then can be cooked or added to a stir-fry.
