Progress No. 9 is always a popular variety thanks to its superb flavour . It has a prolific nature producing lots of 8cm long dark green pods with 6-9 plump peas in each. This 2nd early choice grows to about 35-50cm tall and only needs support in the windiest of gardens.

SOW: the main sowing time is March to May however sowing in June and July will also give you a successful crop: indeed a sowing in July can extend your harvest into October. We start ours peas in pots to give them a fighting chance against the mice and then plant them outside although you can choose to sow directly where they are to grow.

GROW: if pot sown, harden off before planting out at about 12cm apart each way. Growing 35-50cm tall this variety only needs support in the windiest of gardens. Peas like moisture and will tolerate light shade. You should only need to water in dry summers, not too much while they are young but a little more once they start to flower. Pick regularly to encourage more growth, you first peas should be ready after just 8 weeks!

EAT & ENJOY: lots of lovely peas – don’t be tempted to eat them all before you get them to the kitchen!
