Pea Jubilee is a lovely 2nd early variety producing a reliable good crop. It flowers strongly, and those white blooms are followed by well set double pods – the bright green peas produced are very evenly sized. Not too tall at 60-70cm, flavourful and resistant to common pea problems we are sure this will become a favourite choice.
SOW
Jubilee can be started in February for an early crop or sown up to late May/early June. We start our peas in pots to give them the best start and keep them safe from hungry mice. Seed depth for peas is 3-5cm (just past the 2nd joint on your index finger). You can sow them in situ; for early sowing use cloches to warm the soil up first and give them that little bit of protection while they get going.
GROW
Pot grown plants need to be hardened off before planting out - Jubilee is 60-70cm tall so a staggered row with plants about 10cm apart should be fine. Peas like moisture and will tolerate light shade. You should only need to water in dry summers, not too much while they are young but a little more once they start to flower. Pick regularly to encourage more growth.
EAT & ENJOY
As they are a 2nd early Jubilee need about 14 weeks from sowing – fresh peas from your own garden are a delight.
