Parsnip Everton might well become a fixture in your plot. It is vigorous, tasty and aromatic. The creamy white roots reach 25-30cm and are really very uniform – great news if you are hoping to lift a cup in your local garden show. Of premier importance is Everton’s ability to hold its quality whilst in the ground into the winter until you are ready to call full time and dig them up. That colder winter weather enhances their sweetness. Did you know parsnips can be used like carrot in cakes? Or celebrate with superb roasted parsnips that are hard to beat.
This variety is part of our naturally nurtured range, the seed comes from an organic source.
SOW: parsnips are renowned for erratic and slow germination in wet &/or cold conditions. Try warming the soil under cloches for 2/3 weeks before sowing later in mid/late spring. Alternatively sprout the seeds on damp kitchen towel on a windowsill and plant out as soon as they germinate (before they root into the towel).
GROW: water during a dry summer. This variety will retain its quality in the ground into the winter ready for lifting as and when needed.
ENJOY: tasty and aromatic roots with intensified sweetness from colder conditions. Try Parsnip mash or puree, add to curry, soups and stews or simply roast during the winter season.
