Olaya ‘Grandifolia’ shows off pure white, lacy blooms that seem to float above delicate, finely divided, fern-like foliage. Each flower head is made up of tiny florets surrounded by a ring of larger petals—intricate and exquisite. This variety has earned the RHS Award of Garden Merit, a sign of reliable performance. It’s also a true cut-and-come-again flower, blooming from June often right through to the first frosts.
🌸 Flowering: June to September (to first frosts)
📏 Height: 60cm
🌿Annual
SOW
In spring (March to May), surface sow into pots or trays of moist, lightly firmed compost. Cover very lightly—light helps them germinate—then pop the tray into a plastic bag and keep it somewhere warm (15–20°C). Germination usually takes 3–4 weeks.
For autumn sowing, you can either broadcast seed direct in late summer or early autumn, or sow into 15cm pots and keep them in a cold frame or unheated greenhouse. This gives you stronger plants with well-developed rootballs for earlier flowers the following year.
GROW
Harden off young plants before planting them out 30–45cm apart in a sunny spot. Orlaya is great for pollinators, reputedly deer resistant, and fits right in among veg or in the border.
ENJOY:
Perfect for cutting fresh bouquets, Olaya ‘Grandifolia’ keeps flowering more the more you pick. It’s also a magnet for pollinating insects, making it a beautiful and useful addition to your garden.
