Ever-popular Red Baron is a superb quality onion again, thick necked and globe shaped. When sliced the flesh is white with red bands. It looks and tastes great. We will be growing this again ourselves.
Sow: in spring, sparingly 1cm deep in rows about 30cm apart; in situ but warm the soil first under cloches as cold soil upsets germination, thin when large enough to handle. We have successfully started our onions in seed trays, potting on at the crookneck stage and then planting out.
Grow: space at, or thin out, 7-10cm apart for medium bulbs or wider for larger bulbs. Keep well-watered as the bulb swells. Harvest when they reach the size you want.
Enjoy: super flavour. If you like raw onion than these make beautiful rings for salads with a gentle bite, not eye watering!
