North Holland Bloodred Redmate has an intensive red, vibrant colour. It is a versatile onion that is a medium sized bulber however the flavour develops early which allows it to be pulled young as a delicious salad onion.
SOW: in Spring, sparingly 1cm deep in rows about 30cm apart; in situ but warm the soil first under cloches as cold soil upsets germination, thin when large enough to handle. We have successfully started ours in modules and transplanted.
GROW: space at 7-10cm apart for medium bulbs or wider for larger bulbs. Keep well-watered as the bulb swells. Harvest when they reach the size you want! Otherwise gather your crop in during August & September.
ENJOY: perfect for colourful salads or for cooking. There are many ways to store onions and they are easy to freeze: onions can be cooked from frozen.
