Armstrong is a vigorous main crop variety to give you lovely large delicious onions with the added benefit that they keep well. A consistent performer although not widely available.
SOW: in spring, sparingly 1cm deep in rows about 30cm apart; in situ but warm the soil first under cloches as cold soil upsets germination, thin when large enough to handle. We have successfully started our onions in seed trays, potting on at the crookneck stage and then planting out.
GROW: space at 7-10cm apart for medium bulbs or wider for larger bulbs. Keep well-watered as the bulb swells. Harvest when they reach the size you want! Otherwise gather your crop in during August & September.
ENJOY: Armstrong produces large delicious onions. These store well. You can also slice or dice before freezing them.
