This versatile heirloom, Ailsa Craig, can be spring or autumn sown. It has outstanding flavour and quality and is a super choice for general growing producing large onions.
SOW & GROW: in spring, sparingly 1cm deep in rows about 30cm apart; in situ but warm the soil first under cloches as cold soil upsets germination, thin when large enough to handle. We have successfully started ours in modules and transplanted. For autumn: space seed 3-5cm apart in early August Scotland/N.England, late August South West & S.Wales, mid-August rest of England. [Thin in spring allowing for winter losses]. Space at 7-10cm apart for medium bulbs or wider for larger bulbs. Keep well-watered as the bulb swells. Harvest when they reach the size you want! Otherwise gather your crop in during August & September.
ENJOY: enjoy these potentially large onions
