Marigold Jolly Jester is tall, unusual, and a bit funky — with striking striped petals in bold yellow and deep red, like a jester’s costume. A brilliant way to bring colour, movement, and useful pest control to your garden. Great among veg, where they attract pollinators and help keep pests in check, while also adding a cheerful splash of colour for cutting or cooking.
🌸 Flowering: June to October
📏 Height: to 65cm
🌿Annual
SOW: from March to April, sow seeds in trays with seed compost. Cover lightly with perlite, vermiculite, or a thin layer of compost. Seal the tray in a plastic bag to keep the moisture in, and keep it warm at about 18–20°C. Germination usually takes 1–2 weeks. Once the seedlings are big enough to handle, pot them up into modules.
GROW: when they’re about 10cm tall, harden off and plant out around 15-30cm apart. Keep them in a sunny spot. To keep the blooms coming, deadhead regularly—just pinch off the old flowers before they go to seed.
📌USES
These are perfect for POLLINATORS amongst your crops — or CUT and pop some in a vase, or use some of the EDIBLE, peppery petals in soups and stews.
Add height and movement to your borders. Plant at the ends of your veg rows for an attractive and powerful natural pest protector.
