Zermatt is the earliest of the open pollinated varieties which makes it one of the best for harvesting as baby leeks but it also grows into excellent full sized leeks: this means that you can enjoy feasting on it over a long harvest season.

SOW: March to May for the main harvest season of August to November. This variety makes a fabulous baby leek for harvesting even earlier!

GROW: for baby leeks sow in situ and pull when pencil thick.  For larger leeks start them in modules and transplant when they are large enough (about 20cm tall), plant out one leek per 15cm deep hole made with a dibber or stick.  Water the leek into the hole and let the soil wash in but try not to get soil in between the leaves.  It sounds fiddly but leeks are worth the trouble.  If it is dry after planting water gently every day but otherwise just leave them to grow!

ENJOY: leeks can be lifted when you need them so you can enjoy them fresh.
