Porbella has great winter hardiness and its resistant to rust but most importantly this variety tastes good. Look forward to sturdy white thick stems that you can lift between October and February.
SOW: at 5-10mm deep from March to the end of May for harvest from October through to the following February. We sow our leeks in modules rather than a seed bed. For mini leeks try growing in situ and pull when pencil thick.
GROW: after 10-15 weeks, when they are large enough (about 20cm tall), plant out one leek per 15cm deep hole made with a dibber or stick. Water the leek into the hole and let the soil wash in but try not to get soil in between the leaves. It sounds fiddly but leeks are worth the trouble. If it is dry after planting water gently every day but otherwise just leave them to grow!
ENJOY: Porbella stands well so can be lifted fresh when you want to eat some.
