With its large leaves and broad white ribs this traditional variety, Fordhook Giant, cannot be overlooked. It is a vigorous grower and will cope with whatever the summer weather throws at it until autumn frosts become penetrating. Should you have any of your bountiful crop left-over than your pet chickens and rabbits will also appreciate it.
SOW & GROW: sow in pots and transplant at 30-40cm apart. Start them in late spring and summer for summer and autumn harvesting of individual leaves and stems, plants will resprout. It is a vigorous grower and will cope with whatever the summer weather throws at it until autumn frosts become penetrating.
ENJOY: cook the leaves like spinach or cabbage. The stems can be cooked like rhubarb or you can try steaming and serve with butter as a starter like asparagus tips. Should you have any of your bountiful crop left-over than your pet chickens and rabbits will also appreciate it
